Eligibility
Military members and Veterans who served honorably during eligible war time eras may join the American Legion.
Eligible eras are:

April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 (World War I)
December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II)
June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War)
February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)
August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada)
December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Panama)
August 2, 1990 to today (Gulf War/War On Terrorism)

Auxiliary Membership Eligibility
Direct female relatives of Legion members or deceased Legion eligible Veterans are eligible to join the American Legion Auxiliary.
Direct relatives include:
Wife
Mother
Daughter
Sister
Grandmother
Grand Daughter
Great Grand Daughter
Grand Mother
Self(Female eligible Veteran)
Note: Step relatives are eligible

Sons of the American Legion Eligibility
All male descendants, adopted sons and stepsons of members of the American Legion, and such descendants of Veterans who died in service during eligible periods or Veterans who died subsequent to their honorable discharge from such service are eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Legion.
